It was a winter season and 1’O clock in the night.
Cool breezes were piercing me like a volley of bullets. Darkness loomed all
over the world (not certainly). I heard dogs’ barking sounds and owls’ screeches.
No one was present on the surroundings. It was grisly and terrifying. But I
could survive that bone crunching night. As I was strolling through the
corridors of a house, I heard a loud creak from a far distance. I had tried to increase
my pace, but my frozen legs were not supporting and unable to land them firmly
on the ground. After staggering for some time, suddenly I encountered a sepulchre,
beside which laid a carcass (though I couldn't identify). But there was no
graveyard as such. It was isolated by some means. For some time a sense of déjà
vu stroked me. Where was I? Was I alienated or was I in another world? I shouldn't have come to here. But something drove me in this direction. What the
best I could do? I keenly observed that tomb and found something. An epitaph
labelled on it with very tiny letters. It said “las unidades de destino de todos” and I couldn't decipher it.
I remembered the days of my schooling. As a part of
“beyond daily chores” program, they (teachers) used to teach us extra
activities like computer lessons, drawing/painting, Multilingual skills (any two
among Dutch, French, Latin and Spanish) etc. I opted for the two extremities. I was
certainly good at Spanish (not mastered though) than Dutch. There were weekly two
sessions on these languages and the semantics of these two languages had
fascinated me, and this erstwhile adrenaline made me to do masters in philology
in these two languages.
Spanish did really help me in deciphering this
phase. The inscription says “Fate drives
everyone”. For a while I thought about why this had been written and the
purpose of it at the moment albeit it is an axiom. I pondered over it for a
long time, but couldn't come to a point, why it had been labelled in rubric on
the very right corner of the grave. The carcass was putrefying; I was unable to
bear its fetid smell. I should leave this place as soon as possible: muttered
myself. I walked by the tomb in such a way that as if it was not there. My mind
was still insisting me towards the inscription. After walking for some meters, I
saw an incarnate creature-and its silhouette suggesting me that it was an
anthropoid. It was stationary for a long time as I had been. Thoughts kept
crossing my mind. Whether anybody is also isolated from the rest of the world
like me? After some time it started approaching me. A ray of light illuminated
it partially, showing its black robe and blanched face and I came to know that
it was not a human being but a phantom. I was completely drenched in sweat in
that coldness (<10C temp) after confirming that it was a spectre. I had prayed for almost all gods
whoever came to my mind at that moment. In that placid ambience, it came to me…
I suddenly woke up from the heavy sleep that I had
and screamed NO. My roommate also woke up suddenly with a jerk. He too screamed.
OMG that shit nightmare! Had gulped a half bottle of water in hurry and slept.
